ROOFING FELT RECYCLING
We do NOT accept hazardous waste, meaning we only accept roofing felt WITHOUT tar, asbestos, and PCB, and with a PAH content of less than 1000 mg/kg. The customer must therefore sign the transport document confirming this. It is crucial that these requirements are met.
We can also help with the transportation. Contact us today to learn more about your options.

Did you know that it doesn’t make sense to test roofing felt for hydrocarbons?
In roofing felt, the hydrocarbons are not free but bound within the bitumen – forming part of the material’s structure. This means they cannot move or pose a risk on their own.
At the same time, high levels of hydrocarbons can be found in many everyday products, such as toys and rubber, without necessarily making them dangerous.
What matters is not the amount, but how the hydrocarbons are bound, and whether they can be released into the environment or absorbed by humans.

BUY BITUMENMIX
High-quality BitumenMix is sold for asphalt production. The product is typically made from roofing felt from demolitions that has been crushed and delivered in bulk with a granulate size of 0-14 mm.
The material contains 55% bitumen, with the rest being fibers and small stones, which also make it ideal for asphalt production.
Practical arrangements
It is fed through a set-up feeder at the asphalt plant. Delivered in bulk using tipper or working floor trucks. BitumenMix is sold with an approved CE mark.
High-quality bitumen is sold for roofing felt production. The product typically comes from new production surplus from roofing felt manufacturers.
The BitumenMix will contain approximately 58% bitumen, with a granulate size between 0-14 mm. Prior to delivery, grain size and bitumen percentage analyses will be conducted. The BitumenMix will be delivered with an approved CE certificate.
Practical arrangements
Delivered on pallets in 20 to 50 kg sacks and/or in big bags. Delivered in bulk using tipper or working floor trucks. Delivered just in time.

Our processes for bitumen recycling are in compliance with the Environmental Protection Act, which regulates the handling of waste and pollution. Read more about the legislation here.
Incineration of 1 ton of roofing felt waste emits 1,572 kg of CO₂.
Recycling 1 ton of roofing felt waste into BitumenMix emits 101 kg of CO₂.
The CO₂ reduction from recycling roofing felt waste into BitumenMix instead of incineration is 1,471 kg per ton of waste.
Reduction in environmental impact with recycled roofing felt
By reusing bitumen from used roofing felt in the local area, bitumen does not need to be transported from distant parts of the world, resulting in a significant reduction in environmental impact. Using our innovative process, we transform the collected roofing felt into the raw material BitumenMix, which can be 100% recycled.
By converting the collected roofing felt into the raw material BitumenMix, there is no waste in the production. The product can be used as a binder for the production of roofing felt and asphalt.
Tarpaper Recycling is among the first in the world to systematically establish a recycling process for roofing felt waste. There is a significant environmental benefit in being able to offer waste producers disposal of roofing felt waste for recycling.
At Tarpaper Recycling, we are proud to showcase that we have a CE Certification, which you can read more about on the “CE Certification” page. We hold the Certificate of Conformity of the Factory. On the page, you can also download our certificate.
Our innovative and patented method makes the recycling of roofing felt in asphalt production possible, which is greatly beneficial to the environment. By processing used or surplus roofing felt, we contribute to making asphalt production more environmentally friendly, with a significant environmental benefit.

BitumenMix for new asphalt Roofing felt can replace virgin bitumen – depending on the type of asphalt being produced, 2-3% of bitumen can be replaced with BitumenMix.
BitumenMix for new roofing felt Recycled bitumen can replace virgin bitumen in the production of new roofing felt.
This circular concept contributes to a better environment by reducing CO2 emissions, minimizing waste accumulation, and ensuring resource efficiency. BitumenMix is CE-certified and, therefore, an approved product that reduces production costs and has positive environmental impacts. BitumenMix as a raw material in production provides significant environmental and economic savings as a benefit. We directly contribute to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
