Roofing felt contains 55% bitumen and thus far more than recycled asphalt, which is traditionally used as a substitute for virgin bitumen. BitumenMix can replace a larger part of the virgin bitumen in asphalt and thus ensure resource efficiency. 50% of virgin bitumen in asphalt can be replaced by recycled bitumen from roofing felt. There are therefore great environmental and economic benefits when recycling bituminous materials.
Economic benefit
Since up to 50% of the virgin bitumen in asphalt can be replaced by BitumenMix, there are great savings to be obtained. By adding 2% bitumen from BitumenMix asphalt producers could potentially save between 350,000 and 400,000 EUR per year. See price example below.

Traditionally, roofing bitumen waste has been sent to landfills or incinerated and asphalt production has only used recycled bitumen from RAP. By replacing virgin bitumen in the production of asphalt with BitumenMix millions of tons of CO2 can be saved. Replacement of e.g. 3.000 tons virgin bitumen would result in an impressive saving of 7.200.000 kg CO2.
Recycled roofing felt waste reduces the pressure on the waste management system and we contribute to establishing a sustainable society focusing on circular solutions. By using recycled bitumen in asphalt you will contribute to a full circular solution as the bitumen will be reused again and again as RAP.
